Consultant in Applied Neuropsychology – PhD – Meditation Scientist – Researcher – Teacher
Mindtraining is a general term for techniques that improve happiness, wellbeing and success. They include scientifically validated methods and reliable approaches from non-scientific disciplines. They are holistic and focus on the needs of the person, avoiding over-reliance on unproven or theoretical concepts.
Having recovered from a major mental health crisis three decades ago, I experienced first hand the power of the mind to heal itself under the right conditions. I became fascinated by the capacity we each have to prevent and recover from problematic mental health. Between 2000 and 2012, I undertook research in my free time, exploring the relationship between compassion and health. My conclusions, based on the anecdotal evidence I compiled, were that regular practice of compassion-based meditation provided some resilience to dementia and mental illness. However, to understand scientifically how compassion might be able to transform mental health, I needed to engage with the psychological sciences.
Between 2012 and 2018, I obtained a BSc in psychology and an MSc in Neuropsychology – Cognitive Psychology, specializing in the health benefits of meditation and mind training. During this time I maintained a small private practice sharing mindtraining methods with a range of clients. As my work became of greater interests to clinicians and academics, I was awarded a PhD scholarship researching the scientific history of meditation and mindfulness in 2019. Throughout this period, I continued to teach meditation and mindtraining and worked as a Specialist Academic Mentor at leading universities in the UK. Upon the successful completion of my PhD, I strengthened my practice as a Consultant in Applied Neuropsychology. Today, I also work as a Mindtraining Consultant and Teacher and Mental Health Mentor. I am a leading researcher into nondual compassion, and I am involved in community-based mental health projects.
